NACC CARE CHEF OF THE YEAR 2023 HAS OPENED FOR ENTRIES

The NACC has begun the search for the best chef in the care sector to compete in regional heats and win Chef of the Year

The NACC has begun the search for the best chef in the care sector. The competition has been running for 23 years and is open to all chefs working in care.

Seeking chefs combining knowledge, skill and flair, nominations will be open until 24 April 2023.

Unilever Food Solutions will be the main sponsor with The Worshipful Company of Cooks also sponsoring the event.

Entrants will be challenged to create a two-course menu to focus on the importance of nutrition and positive mealtime experiences and should cost no more than £3.50 per head. Unilever are  adding in a challenge for entrants to use at least one product from their sector-relevant catering range.

Alex Hall, executive chef at Unilever Food Solutions, said: “We are very excited and proud to continue our sponsorship of the NACC Care Chef of the Year competition in 2023. This competition provides a great opportunity for care chefs around the country to showcase their skills and raise the profile of care catering.”

Nominees will compete at regional heats in June 2023. After all regional heats, the final judging will commence on 3 October 2023 at the West Nottingham College.

“Delicious, nutritious food and positive dining experiences are fundamental to quality care, so you could say that the kitchen is at the heart of a care home,” says Sue Cawthray, national chair of the NACC. “It’s therefore only right that we celebrate and champion the incredible talents of care chefs who, day-in-day-out, ensure the individual and varied needs of those in their care are understood and met with skill, flair and dignity.”
