Unox takes fundraising to new heights

As a long-term partner of The Burnt Chef Project, a team from Unox will attempt to carry a professional combi oven to the summit of Ben Nevis at the end of June

As a long-term partner of The Burnt Chef Project, a leading equipment manufacturer, has raised thousands for the industry-related cause. Now, in a challenge that will take fundraising to all new heights, Unox UK has announced ‘Moving Mountains for Mental Health’, which will see it attempting to carry a professional combi oven to the summit of Ben Nevis – the highest point in the UK.

Taking place over the last weekend in June (28th – 30th June 2024), a team from Unox UK, along with select partners, will be joined by a qualified mountain leader team to scale the 4,413ft mountain. A serious challenge, the climb will be made significantly harder with the team carrying a Unox Cheftop-X – a 150kg professional oven – to the top of the mountain.

Moving Mountains for Mental Health, as the challenge has been aptly named, is Unox UK’s latest fundraiser for The Burnt Chef Project. Aiming to raise £10,000 for The Burnt Chef Project, Unox is offering partners a chance to sponsor the challenge, while also asking for donations from customers, suppliers and stakeholders. What’s more, Unox SpA, the parent company of Unox UK has agreed to match donations, pound for pound, meaning everything raised by the UK team will be doubled.

Announced at ‘Love Hospitality’, The Burnt Chef Project’s recent showstopping gala dinner in London, the challenge is not to be underestimated. Understanding the obstacles and unpredictability of the climb, Unox UK has worked closely with professional mountain guides to plan the route, while a bespoke frame has been kindly fabricated by the team from Mills Engineering Services, with materials funded by Lee Denning of Food Machinery Services.

Leading the challenge internally, Tom Bentham, Key Account Manager at Unox UK comments: “Moving Mountains for mental health is something we’re absolutely committed to doing as a business. Supporting the incredible work of The Burnt Chef Project, Unox UK has not only been a faithful fundraiser but has also invested in the tools and support services from the project for our internal team, giving them access to a range of tools and support if needed.

As the pinnacle fundraising event of the year, Moving Mountains is a challenge requiring our team to pull together as one as we take our latest combi oven to the highest point in the UK – a true feet of endurance, perseverance and determination.”

Joining the challenge team, Kris Hall, founder and CEO of The Burnt Chef Project adds: To have the ongoing support and commitment from a high-profile brand such as Unox is something we’re incredibly grateful for. Moving Mountains is set to be a challenge of epic proportions. To take an oven that weighs in at more the 150kg to the top of the UK’s highest mountain is incredible and something that to my knowledge, has not been done before. With a fundraising target of £10,000, the support from Unox UK will go a long way to helping us support those experiencing mental health challenges, provide training to businesses and operators and reduce the stigma around mental health in the hospitality profession.”

Unox UK is looking for several partners to support the fundraising challenge. Offering a range of promotional opportunities and a selection of fantastic Unox and The Burnt Chef Project merchandise, more sponsorship information can be found by speaking to a nominated Unox UK representative.
