NACC to honour D-Day anniversary with fish and chip lunch
Thr 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings on Thursday 6th June will see a series of major commemorations and events
In order to help the nation celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings on Thursday 6th June, when a series of major commemorations and events will take place across the UK and in France, the National Association of Care Catering (NACC) will be encouraging everyone to support the celebrations with a fish and chip lunch.
To this end, the Association has released a free resource pack for everyone operating within the care sector to download so that they can make the most of the day in their care homes, lunch clubs and Meals on Wheels provisions. The pack includes a Fish and Chips recipe from the NACC Care Chef of the Year, Brian Preston.
NACC National chair, Neel Radia comments: “Many of today’s residents in the care homes represented by the NACC will have first-hand memories of D-Day and we have a fine reputation for inviting the local community into our homes to share events such as these, which provide our residents with the opportunity to pass on their treasured memories.”
Fish and chips are often considered to be the British national dish and this humble meal was a vital ingredient of the war effort, so much so, that the British Government safeguarded the supply of fish and potatoes during both world wars to keep up morale! Accordingly, this year, National Fish & Chip Day, which is now in its ninth year, has been moved in honour of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, the largest naval, land and air operation in history.
