Catherine House Care Home Explores Southwick Country Park

Residents from Catherine House Care Home in Frome, recently enjoyed a visit to Southwick Country Park, which enabled them to spend time together while also forming new connections with the wider community.
The visit began at the park café where hot drinks and nibbles were served before the Catherine House residents residents headed off to see some of the park’s attractions, starting with the pigs. Catherine House resident Barbara was quick to share her delight, but fellow resident Ruby joked that they were the right size for a bacon sandwich!
Southwick Park also provided a space for genuine surprise and new experiences. One resident encountered a wallaby for the first time in his life and expressed his shock that they could live in the English climate, having always associated them with Australia.
The outing also prioritised autonomy and a sense of purpose. Resident Malcolm took the opportunity to explore the grounds in his electric wheelchair and, navigating his own route, he enjoyed the independence of the open paths, while staying within reassuring sight of the team.
The walk was filled with a wonderful sense of fun thanks to Alan, who shared his love of music by singing 'Just One Cornetto' throughout the afternoon. His personality really shone through when the group reached the sheep; as they gathered closely around him, Alan playfully asked one curious ewe: 'What are you looking at, you ugly buggar?' It was a moment of light-hearted relief that perfectly captured his sense of humour.
Meanwhile, Ruby found a deep sense of engagement with the goats, calling them over to the fence for some cuddles.
To round out the day, the group made a classic pit stop at Greggs on the way home, where they devoured a variety of pastries, a simple and familiar treat that brought the day to a satisfying close.
