NEW DINING INITIATIVE LAUNCHED BY BARCHESTER HEALTHCARE

Barchester Healthcare has launched ‘Don’t Dine Alone’ to support elderly people in the local community

Barchester Healthcare has launched 'Don't Dine Alone' to support elderly people in the local community.

Shawford Springs, one of Barchester's care homes in Compton, is inviting some elderly people who might dine alone to enjoy a three-course meal with residents.

The dining initiative will offer either lunch or dinner, followed by entertainment or quizzes. This will give them the chance to socialise with both residents and staff. It aims to tackle isolation and vulnerability in the community.

The meals will be produced by Shawford Springs' head chef who will cover a range of dietary requirements and preferences.

"Loneliness can be a big problem for elderly people," says Julie House, general manager at Shawford Springs. "Especially as when weather gets colder. Our doors are always open to new friends of the home."
