Sherrell House Care Home hosts its first Canine Coffee Morning
Residents, their families and members of the local community and their furry friends were all invited to join in the fun
Sherrell House Care Home in Chigwell recently hosted its first-ever coffee morning where dogs were both welcome and encouraged to join in the fun.Dubbed the 'Canine Coffee Morning', the event invited residents, their families, friends and members of the community to visit Sherrell House and enjoy a morning with coffee, canine cuddles, and conversations with members of the care home staff and residents.
Held on 23rd March, the event was held in celebration of National Puppy Day and, as such, offered an engaging way for Sherrell House to establish links with the people of Chigwell and build the foundation for ongoing friendships with people and their dogs.
During the build-up to the event, Sherrell House Care Home partnered with the Chigwell Residents’ Association to help spread the word and encourage attendance. This proved to be a successful partnership, as on the morning of the event, residents were excited to see people arriving with their furry friends alongside them! Hot drinks were served and snacks were available as everyone enjoyed conversations with each other and a cuddle with their four-legged friends.
One of the guests was a local dog trainer and groomer, so residents enjoyed learning a few simple tricks and also had the opportunity to share stories about the dogs they had known throughout their lives. One lady who lives at Sherrell House said the event brought her lots of joy and comfort, as it enabled her to reminisce and recall fond memories spent with her beloved dog, which sadly passed away 12 years ago.
The Canine Coffee Morning was a huge success so much so that it will continue to feature as a regular event in the care home’s activity calendar.
